TAP

Part Passamaquoddy Indian, Tap left home in rural Massachusetts at the age of fifteen. He hitchhiked to Sun Valley, Idaho to join the ski patrol. In 1942 the Army’s 10th Mountain Division drafted Tap to teach high-angle rescue, avalanche forecasting and skiing. By 1961 Tap was found living in a teepee in the Rockies by the Headmaster of Colorado Academy, who asked Tap to start America’s first Outward Bound program. In these two disparate environments begins the story of Tap as that one unforgettable and beloved teacher working with Nature and showing his charges a new way to live.
